A fire largely destroyed the historic Galeries Lafayette building in Pau. The façade suffered severe damage and the roof collapsed. The project aims to bring this emblematic building back to life while preserving its historic facade, a remarkable piece of heritage.
Elioth designed the self-supporting solid stone façade elements, including very slender pilasters in a high seismic zone, which required the integration of reinforcement ties.
Several structural typologies were developed depending on the facade :
- Slender, self-supporting pilasters braced against interior concrete columns on the “cathedral” facade
- Solid stone elements set on steel brackets arranged as a double wall
- A self-supporting solid stone wall on the north facade
- A methodology for the temporary support and stabilization of the existing historic facade, which is being preserved and restored
Elioth designed the self-supporting stone facade systems in compliance with current regulations.
