The Centre Sportif du Gol brings together a set of complementary facilities: a gymnasium, a dance studio, a fitness room, and a dojo. A multipurpose hall, which can be mobilized under the ORSEC emergency plan, provides space for various events, while a community association center completes the program.
All superstructures are built in timber. Except for the multipurpose hall, which is enclosed for acoustic reasons, the buildings are designed according to a bioclimatic approach, favoring natural ventilation and showcasing the exposed timber structure, visible both inside and outside depending on the configuration.
The gymnasium’s roof structure consists of glued-laminated timber beams supported by timber columns and stabilized by bracing frames, allowing for a 30-meter span. The multipurpose hall, on the other hand, features a structure with timber truss frames and concrete walls at its ends.
The main challenges of the project include addressing the hygrothermal conditions specific to the tropical climate of La Réunion, ensuring seismic design compliance, and developing roof systems and structures capable of withstanding extreme wind loads.
