This pavilion, designed as part of the Archifolies project during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, was created by students from ENSA Paris-Malaquais. It hosted events for the French Fencing Federation during summer 2024 in Parc de la Villette. The pavilion is entirely prefabricated using digital fabrication tools and is made of hybrid modules combining reclaimed corrugated sheet metal and downgraded plywood. These hybrid corrugated metal–plywood units form box-like modules supported by a series of timber frame shear walls.

One of the main challenges was using corrugated sheet metal, typically employed as cladding or roofing, as a structural component capable of bearing vertical loads. This unconventional use of a material that is normally non-structural, and moreover sourced from reuse, falls outside traditional construction practices. The absence of regulatory reference standards led us to conduct a series of laboratory tests, in addition to the preliminary digital analysis.

Expertise employed

Elioth performed the structural design and contributed to the development of the structural concept. As part of this work, mechanical characterization tests of the wood/corrugated metal modules were carried out at ENPC by the Navier Laboratory research teams.

Finally, in line with the Paris 2024 Legacy and Sustainability Plan, the pavilion was dismantled after the Games and reinstalled as a small public facility in the Jardin des Traverses, in the 18th arrondissement of Paris.
